Memorial Day Weekend Fishing Forecast

Three day weekend fishing forecast for Key West, Florida.

Memorial Weekend Fun In Key West!

Hi Folks Capt. Steven here. Many of you are coming to Key West for the Memorial Day weekend.. Awesome.. Its gonna be a fabulous weekend for just about any Key West or Florida Keys fishing activity.

First off.. lets not forget why we have this weekend.. No, its not to just consume hotdogs and beer till you pop. We have this weekend to remember our warriors and heroes that have died to provide us the luxury of our freedoms such as hot dogs and beer..

Now..  on to the weekend.

The weather.. We currently have a little annoying tropical low pressure system that is just north of Cuba drawing some moisture from the Carribean. Not to fret though, this one is scheduled to pass through on Friday and making for a decent weekend. Now… that said we still have a higher than average rain chance on Monday. Make your plans to fish though.. there will be little or no wind…

The fishing. Has been good this week but looking to get much better. Coming up on the next moon we are looking at an improved reef bite with the mangrove snappers ready to spawn. some of these fish will run 4-7lbs. The grouper and yellowtails are also on the climb as well. Remember it is Grouper season now so you can get 3 groupers per person. (check your regs).

Offshore deep sea the dolphin are Way The Hell Out there. Go to the wall and further if you are headed off of Key West or live in eternal chicken dolphin nightmare. Your big boats sport fishing yachts will know how to get the larger fish for you.. Under the floating stuff (there is allot of it) there have been some wahoo and larger fish caught.

In the Backcountry flats… oh my. the tarpon have been here a good while. Fly fishermen are having a tough time getting these fish to eat, but our bait and artificial lure fishing trips here at Dream Catcher Charters have been doing very well with a few fish per day. On the flats find the permit and bonefish. The permit are back from the spawn and having a ball hunting crabs and what nots on the flats.

Boating safety tip.. DONT RUN OVER anyone.. there will be a lot of people here this weekend and safety should be paramount for all of you.. See a Dive flag avoid the area, see a flats fishing guide up on his poling platform with big long stick, avoid him too, chances are you cannot go there anyway..

Have fun.. Call us if you want to ask questions about the fishing or book a fishing charter.. 1-305-292-7212
