Backcountry fishing heats up as the Key West temps cool down. 

In the last few days we have been seeing some very nice catches here at Dream Catcher Charters. Fishing that includes redfish, snook, trout, bonefish, pompano, snappers, jacks and mackerel. thats a pretty good list by any standards but a typical one for the Key West backcountry in October.

In October here in Key West we call it a transitional month both inshore and offshore. The transition being the weather and the currents and how they affect our local Key West waters. As we all know here in the states October usually ushers in our first cold fronts giving the first chill in the air. Up north you all are getting the winter coats out of the attic and racking up leaves. Well down here we are going fishing on without a doubt the bountiful time of the year.

Once that first chill comes down we get into some cooler weather. Cooler to us by the way is lows in the upper 70’s and highs in upper 80’s.. Yes.. thats cool. the nice part is the humidity is less making it feel cooler. Follow that with a nice comfortable water temp in the low 80’s and you got yourself a slug fest out there in our Key West backcountry. This time of the year it is not uncommon to have anglers catch up to 20 different species of fish and have an incredible day.

One of our trips over the weekend Capt. Kyle Kelso at the helm of our 24 Yellowfin Bay boat “Innovation” laid into a nice selection of fish including Redfish, trout and permit out in the Marquesas. Capt. Kyle also spotted some cobia as well. Our Marquesas fishing charters are amazing. If the conditions are good we head out there and show you a day you wont soon forget.
