Yellowtail Snappers On The Reef Help With The Slow Days Offshore.

February 23 rd 2013 Capt. Rob Harris has been running out to the blue waters South and South East of Key West just about every day that weather permits for the last couple of weeks and here is his report..

The blue water is slow. The trolling conditions are very good and the current is cranking to the East but the fish just are not around. Listening to the fleet of boats that depart out of Key West every day Capt. Rob collaborates with them while he is out there on VHF radio and then back at the dock with phone calls.  I just don’t see the point in going out to the 240 and deeper when all I am hearing is guys cathing skip jack tunas and bonito with an occasional saber toothed barracuda. Even the king fishing has slowed way down..

So like any good offshore guy. Capt. Rob stays on the reef. A nice catch of yellowtail snappers up to 2 lbs can be had right now with a stray mutton snapper or larger cero mackerel. Great food quality and fun to fish, plus with these winds lately a whole lot calmer..

The forecast shows that the winds for the next few days should drop through Tuesday. Capt Rob says this may enhance the bite for wahoo for Monday and Tuesday during the full moon. Its a stretch but the sails are not here yet and everything else seems to be skirting us.

Capt. Rob Runs the “Intense” here at Dream Catcher Charters our 32 ft Yellowfin offshore center console. This fast express center console can have you on the fish in 20 minutes from the dock.
