Tarpon Bite Dies In The Cold

Tarpon Jumping Tarpon Time IN January
Tarpon Jumping

Last Week Was Fun.. This Week The Bite Has Chilled. See My Forecast.

March 28 2013 Its like  a verse out of the song American Pie. The Day the Tarpon Bite Died..

The last cold front has really punched us in the gut for tarpon fishing here in Key West. The last part of March is supposed to be rock solid hard core every day brow beating tarpon time.. Last week it looked just that way.. This week not so much.

Cold front set in on Monday and Tuesday with temps dipping into the high 50’s here in Key West. Very unseasonable and super disappointing to some anglers who booked their fishing time with us here at Dream Catcher Charters based on catching the Silver King. As a policy here at Dream Catcher Charters we always leave the choice up to the anglers to decide if they want to go out on their scheduled fishing charter even though tarpon will not be readily available. Especially if that is what is on their request sheet here in our office.. All but two of the 25 trips affected by the weather so far went out to brave the cold temps, windy days and difficult fishing to have some fun.

The Door prize in this weather is we had an extension of our winter fishery with nice sized jacks, trout, lady fish, blue fish, snappers and groupers. Lots of fun for those who took advantage of the fact the weather was still not as bad as the midwest was getting and made the best of it.

The Tarpon Fishing Forecast

We are coming off the full moon and it Looks great.. We have a warming trend that looks like it will stay here till about next November. I think this was our last front. Expect calmer winds in the first week of April and epic tarpon fishing conditions on the warm up. A little rain is in the forecast for Monday and Wednesday but that never hurt anyone hooked up on a slob tarpon…
