Morgan with a nice beast of a tarpon in June. Fishing Key West with Capt. Steven Lamp

June 25th 2014 – Coming up on a new moon the heat is turned up and the bite is still going on in Key West for tarpon. This June will go down in the books as one of the best ever. Best weather, best bite and our best June ever for business here at Dream Catcher Charters.

Flats calm and perfect are the best way to describe our weather here lately in Key West. Leaving in the morning at 0600 has been a pleasure with mirror water and some amazing sunrises. I have been working both sides of Key West out toward the Marquesas Keys and finding tarpon in all my regular spots. With all of us leaving the dock every day its easy for us to stay in the loop on the fish comparing notes at the end of our days helps us in the following days bite and how to get our people in the fish faster for a better shot at success..

The early morning and late evening sessions have been the best for the tarpon fishing in the last week. Lazy rolling fish in the calmer waters have been showing our anglers a great time with some spectacular jumps and hard pulling fights. We are seeing fish in the 80-100 lb range pretty regularly. Using artificial baits like the Hogy Lures 7 inch original soft plastic bait has added to the fun.

On my trips I have been adding to the challenge of tarpon fishing for my folks by sight casting only. I had an angler the other day that just wanted to spend a few minutes at it to see if it would happen.. 3 casts 2 fish jumped and one fish to the boat. He was done. Yesterday I was in the fish early and my anglers sight fished their way to 3 jumped and fought fish as well as 7 eats that they just were not expecting as they pulled the artificial baits through the water.

I expect the tarpon fishing to remain very good through the end of the month and into July. We can only report on whats happening. To call and find out what we have available please use the number below.
