August 17th 2014 – Its back to school season here in Key West. What that means is that everyone has gone home. Officially the slowest weeks of the year here in Key West are the last two weeks of August and the first two weeks of September. Kids are going back to school the summer is winding down and the winter holidays are just a few months away. Its been an exceptional year here in Key West especially at Dream Catcher Charters. Thanks in part to our ever growing repeat clientele we had the best year (once again) ever and broke all sorts of records for our anglers and our business.

Just because everyone is gone and we are back to the sleepy little island community that we have become famous for does not in any way mean the fishing has slowed down. In fact, as locals this is our Favorite time of the year to go fishing here in Key West. The waters are less crowded and the fish are chewing off the hook.

In the Backcountry and On The Flats.

This is SLAM season. The best time of the year to have a great shot at all three. The tarpon, permit and bonefish. Everyday we leave the dock on a backcountry fishing or flats fishing charter the Key West grand slam is our focus. With the weather we have had lately its been amazing out there and the conditions look like they will continue. Early morning shots at tarpon in addition to the tailors on the flats of permit and bonefish. Its all exciting and pretty much guaranteed with a little patience and a full day you will at least see all three fish. Added to the Key West grand slam in the backcountry we also have some very large barracudas cruising the flats with some huge mangrove snappers ready to eat and show up for dinner.

The Reef and Deep Sea Fishing

Easy dinner time on the yellowtail snappers. with slicked out conditions we are enjoying a nice drift on the reef providing a great yellowtail snapper bite. Inshore a little bit further enjoy some awesome patch reef fishing for grouper and other species of snappers. The deep sea fishing report always turns a little bit slow this time of the year with the dog days of summer. Dolphin are running very small with a few exceptions but the marlin bite has been pretty good during the big moons of summer. Our Dream Catcher fleet has landed a couple blue marlins and a white in the last full moon phase.

So… You want the best room rates and the least amount of crowds and traffic.. Come to Key West now….! Its the best time of the year to enjoy all of what our island is supposed to be.
