November 30, 2014 – The weather has been a pretty wild ride the last two weeks here in Key West with Northerly winds upward to 25 knots and some cooler temps as Capt. Brian mentioned in our last report about the Polar Vortex. Now the weather has become consistent as we set our eyes on December and Christmas week for fishing here at Dream Catcher Charters.

Cooler temps have made our backcountry waters chill down to our winter temps of the upper 60’s to mid 70’s. Incoming tides will warm or cool that water depending on what side of the island chain you decide to fish. Both being an asset to the bite depending on the species of focus. This time of the year is really neat for a backcountry fishing guide. Never a dull moment as the fish are always adjusting to the bait movements and water temps. On the reef the tides vary the color and clarity of the water making those trips very fun with many varieties of fishing action

In the backcountry our trout bite is starting to get going. We are seeing trout up to 28 inches and eating well offering our windy day anglers a chance at a really good food fish without getting their asses beat. Along with the trout I am seeing good numbers of lady fish, big jack crevales and starting to see the Spanish mackerels moving in to feed on the massive amounts of smaller bait fish that are in the area. I have to say, if its rod bending and fun fishing you want – the backcountry is the place to be. A 4 hour trip can give you the opportunity for lots of species, and decent sizes with little wait between catches. We call it Fun Fishing.. Imagine that.. Our boats hold up to 4 anglers and some even have bathrooms. We are happy to teach folks how to enjoy this fishing even if they are total novices. The bass fishing guys LOVE it as there is lots of casting and random strikes to set hooks in.

The reef has been a bit tough for us to get to lately with the stronger winds. Its a bit bumpy out there. The Key West deep sea fishing boats have been doing well on a huge assortment of species like Kingfish, sailfish, tuna and dolphin. The reef bite has been enhanced with the cooler temps and the turbid waters. These trips have been super productive for folks willing to brave the seas. The full moon coming up will offer some excellent opportunities to catch Wahoo… Our Deep sea fishing charters are with the best boats in the Key West fleet. Great captains and crews on boats from 38 – 47 ft. Our reef fishing is affordably done on our bay boats weather permitting for up to 4 anglers. If we cannot make it to the reef we head out to our spots in the backcountry and show you a great day of catching some food fish.

December is typically a pretty slow month here at Dream Catchers.. We usually run about 3 – 5 trips a day and have some last minute room to make reservations right up to Christmas week. Christmas week is already filling up and we are running out of space. IF you are looking for a charter Christmas week please don’t hesitate to call. Remember we have a 7 day cancellation policy with no penalty and we don’t take you out in bad weather.

We would hate for you to have to fish with those other guys, its just not the same, they will tell you it is, but they know and you will find out – its not..
