Black Grouper Backcountry Fishing

January 11th 2016 – The weather is finally turning winter here in Key West – Ish.. Cooler temps with wind and rain have finally made it feel sort of like a normal January. As El Nino pummels the Western Coast with wet weather we have been under a heat dome which kept our weather mild until now.

Here at Dream Catcher Charters we have been fishing every day. Backcountry fishing charters seem to be staying very steady with folks wanting to avoid the winds and waves to bend a rod save some cash and smile with some high fives while they catch whatever is biting..

So, What is biting. As of late with the occasional rains and bit of a North winds and temps in the high 60’s things slowed a bit only to bounce right back with great fishing. The trout are showing up with some good sizes a be it few numbers. Jacks are rushing bait through the channels and edges making a fun ride for anglers who tease them into eating. Then there are the staple huge lady fish, snappers, tasty pompano and blue runners to let everyone on the boat enjoy a hard fighting fish with some food quality. Don’t forget the shark fishing in the shallows of the backcountry. We have bull sharks, black tips and lemon sharks all here for the fight.

Our signature Marquesas Keys All In Wonder fishing charter has been going very well on the days we can comfortably shoot out there the 25 miles to make a day of it. On those days, expect the bait fish to be everywhere with predators crushing them in with a vengeance. Barracudas, jacks, blue runner, blue fish, large mangrove snappers, mutton snappers and groupers in the shallows making a batfishes life a living hell. We have not seen a ton of cobia this year in the shallow wrecks where this trip takes us, mostly due to the weather not being cool enough yet. On the reefs and patch reefs we are able to get into some nice sized yellowtail snappers, mackerel and jacks. Loads of fun for this full day trip that costs just 800.00 for two persons.

After a banner 2015 here at Dream Catcher Charters our schedule is filling up fast with our repeat clientele and new folks that have hear about us from word of mouth, our massive FaceBook presence and our wonderful Trip Advisor reviews. So, to answer the call for more clients we added a couple boats to the already well appointed fleet of boats here at Dream Catchers.
