Tarpon Report
February 19th 2016 – Standard cold front patterns persist. Cooler air temps keeping water temps -70 degrees mostly in the backcountry.
We have had our days. Last week we had a nice warm easterly wind and the tarpon came right up as expected. We anticipate that this will continue as a trend through the forecast period for big tarpon to be going on the feed during the warming trends.
What to look for? IN the forecast look for ESE winds and rising temps. Barometer is not super important but it helps if its falling. This will get you a better chance of a winter tarpon.
We are using live baits for the tarpon we have been catching. Tossing Hogy Lures also works but the dirtier water has visibility limited for these guys to see the bait, so live bait is your best bet. We have been using Pin Fish.
Book your tarpon fishing charter in February with the weather in Mind. By mid March, we don’t think it will matter much and the bite should be consistent for the exception of the cooler days.
