Grouper Snapper Fishing Report

Yellowtail snapper

Nice yellowtail snapper Brian fishing with Capt. Steven of Dream Catcher Charters on board a 24ft Yellowfin Bay Boat.

June 9th 2016 – TS Colin and done and through with us here in Key West. A non event with hardly any rain or winds but a fresh change in the atmosphere. The moderate rain that we did get was enough to change the salinity in the water and make the fish react more favorably. In the forecast period we are looking at a normal percent chance of rains mixed with some lighter winds making it easy to get off shore for a great day of fishing.

On the reef we have most of the snappers either in the spawn cycle or going into it. Muttons had their first big day in the last full moon in May. Many of the yellowtail snappers we are seeing this week and last are much larger than normal. Fishing the shallow reefs has resulted in a great catch for my anglers to show them a great day on the water. Mutton snappers and mangrove snappers have been adding to the color in the box. Grouper fishing has been excellent before and I think it will remain after this little tropical event.

To catch a nice haul of snappers our reef trips on our bay boats will get you to the fish and dinner in the box. We use many different techniques that make snapper fishing more fun and very productive. Looking at the weather coming up there should be no issue getting out to the reef for some easy filets. Our bay boats can accommodate up to three anglers for this kind of fishing and our rates start at 475.00 for the half day reef fishing charter on a bay boat.

Grouper fishing has been excellent before and I think will remain after this little tropical weather even. Grouper fishing charters require a little more boat we recommend our 30+ ft center consoles for this. Longer runs and more open waters need more time so a 6 or 8 hour fishing charter is recommended but the effort will be rewarded with some nice red and black groupers as well as a good mix of muttons and mangrove snappers. Many of our fishing guides troll for grouper or use live bait, either way can be effective and fun. The larger boats start at 750.00 for a half a day for 4 anglers.

Summer is here in Key West. We are in the heat already and the fishing is outstanding fishing on the reef. Our captains are very skilled at showing our anglers many opportunities to catch fish. Booking a trip is easy. Just give us a call and we will personally go over with you what is available.
