Tarpon Season Slows Down

Tarpon and Capt. Steven Lamp Capt. Steven Lamp holds up a nice Key West tarpon.

August 8th 2016 – With incredible conditions here in Key West for backcountry and flats fishing the tarpon season is waning on with, still some good opportunities here at Dream Catcher Charters in Key West. We are into our juvenile period where the baby tarpon in the back islands and estuaries are holding some fish.

This time of the year we like to use live crabs and live pin fish for the bait fishermen. When there is a shrimp hatch the good surface flies will work well and a Hogy lure. Whatever works. Water clarity is extreme so often we drop down in leader size to decrease the visibility…

Larger tarpon are still being fished for and caught on our full day trips to the Marquesas Keys where there are still some lager fish moving about. Check out our All In Wonder fishing charter or our Marquesas Keys Fishing experience to learn more about these trips..

Although we are not calling it tarpon fishing season we will still book a fishing trip that has “tarpon fishing Interest” Keep in mind it is still fishing and we will do what we can to put you on tarpon (thats what we do) but it can be more hit or miss this time of the year.
