Tarpon Fishing Report

Tarpon fishing report Morgan with a nice beast of a tarpon in June. Fishing Key West with Capt. Steven Lamp
Key West tarpon

Capt. Tommy of Dream Catcher Charters is holding up a nice Key West tarpon for release for his client.

February 14th 2017Tarpon Fishing Report We keep expecting the weather to get colder.. But it doesn’t. One of the mildest winters I can remember here in Key West. There is always speculation about this and that what will it do to tarpon season.. Well, this year is weird and we will just have to see. As a 25 year veteran I have yet to see such a consistently warm winter. I have no clue what that will do with our tarpon season.

That said.. We have tarpon here now. No they are not migrational fish but our in and out steady flow of Gulf Of Mexico tarpon that entertain us all through the spring into May. The tarpon fishing that we are doing right now feels like mid March to early April. The tarpon we are seeing are eating live bait and artificial pretty well. Mostly in the channels and laid up in the shallows the tarpon are being found all over the backcountry of Key West.

A small cold front is coming up Thursday and Friday of this week that will chill things down a bit with North winds and temps in the mid 60s. Once again not tragic and I do not see it making a huge water temp difference which is what effects the tarpon the most. We should be rebounded right back to decent shots my mid next week.

Always Keep In Mind….. Although we are in the tarpon we still do not consider this to be tarpon season just yet. So.. our Results May Vary and keep in mind that it is still fishing. We always have other species to fish for if the tarpon are not biting..

Tarpon season is just around the corner and we do have availability.
