Weekend Update

This weekend fishing report and update..

cobia

Never know when a cobia will show up fishing in Key West. Frank boated this guy fishing with me.

April 21 2017 – Not every weekend in Key West looks like a travel magazine. Sometimes we get sloppy weather to make the nice days even better. Looks like a bumpy ride here this weekend till about Monday. Rain, winds and all the things that make even the most die hard anglers want to say – maybe not. Easterly winds prevail through Sunday with a 70% chance of rain. I sure hope those April flowers are happy. Wind Or rain. Boy, I hate both. Good news though, it will be warm – ish.

I was out this morning till about noon with a fishing charter and things were  well.. interesting. We were tarpon fishing and doing what we could to get some baits back to feed the fish we saw. Then.. the lunch gods showed up with some nice cobia. Bonus.. The day before my angler was able to scratch a fish off his bucket list being his very first tarpon ever. Today he gets to scratch cobia  off his list as well. In his words. “we did not even think we had a shot at cobia”.

For my recommendations this weekend.. If you have to get on the water, go in the backcountry and try for some tarpon. The reef and deep sea fishing charters will be tough at best. Key West restaurants are also a good bet. Key West famous bars are also great for daytime drinking and fun places to hang out to watch it rain too. All things to be considered when the forecast looks like it does. Check out Island Genns “Things to do in Key West when it rains”.
