October 29th 2017 – GREAT NEWS……
The powers that be are lifting the restriction that has been in place since 2010 on the American Red Snapper in the Atlantic Ocean.. This comes as a welcome surprise to all of us that love to catch and eat these tasty fish.

Since 2010 there has not been an open season for true American Red Snapper in the Atlantic Ocean. Now we have a couple of open windows “Fishing Seasons” to target these amazingly tasty fish that compliments any box. The new season allows us to fish for the American Red Snapper “ARS” on the dates of November 3rd, 4th and 5th then again on November 10, 11, and 12th. its like Christmas came early.

The closure of this fishery was a travesty here in the Atlantic in my opinion. Back then we had a 20″ limit with a 2 per person bag. We never had a hard time getting limit on any given day here within 20 miles of Key West. Just far enough away for the short runners and long enough to help us respect the fishery that was gifted to us here so close to home. Being able to limit out so fast was a strong indication that the stocks were in Great shape and needed no increased limitations. That did not stop the SAFMC from cutting our ability to harvest these fish all together. Thats a lot of power over a natural resource that should be shared among all of the sectors. Commercial, Recreational and Charter.

All politics asside the ability to go get these fish only lasts 6 days this month. (see dates above) and we intend to make full use of it the best way we know how. Our reef fishing charters are a great way to experience this fishery to its max.

This weekend and next are the only open seasons we will have for American Red Snapper here in Key West and the South Atlantic.
