Key West Fishing Dream Catcher Charters

Day after Christmas Key West Fishing Report…

Busy week rewards many anglers on the waters of Key West fishing with Dream Catcher Charters.

Winter is always a fun time to go fishing here in Key West and this week has been no exception to that rule. Great weather cooler temps and massive amounts of bait are the reasons for the great fishing all the same for the great forecast..

The 5 day weather forecast..

The Christmas week now till the 30th of December weather looks decent right up till Sunday the 30th Morning where we have the tail of a front pushing through and bringing our winds up to 20 – 25 kts, so Sunday and Monday might be a bit sporty for offshore fishing. The winds will be tapering off on Wednesday the 02 of January. Not much in the way of cold just wind. Till then this week Thursday Friday and Saturday look great.

Inshore Backcountry and Flats Fishing

The boys here at Dream Catcher Charters have been showing people a fun filled time on the water catching all sorts of species keeping the rods bent and the smiles endless. Trout, Redfish, sharks, barracudas, pompano, blue fish and large jacks are the fun to be had on our super light Daiwa outfits you can find on any one of our amazing bay boats. Winter fish seem to be twice as mean, fight harder and provide more volume than any other time of the year. Some of our 4 and 6 hour trips are catching up to 60 fish over 14 inches showing anglers of all ages and skill level a blast on the water fishing. On the flats the permit are still up and grazing looking for crabs.. Also.. on the flats we have been seeing some decent sized cobia following the rays making for an incredible shot for anglers to have some fun..Even during the blow this weekend the backcountry fishing will be great..

We still have some availability to get anglers out there this week for New years and beyond if you are coming to Key West or if you are already here give us a call and see what is available.

Offshore Deep Sea Wreck and Reef

Kingfish

Christmas Kingfish caught with Capt. Steven Lamp Dream Catcher Charters

The reef is on fire… baitfish everywhere and many toothy critters eating them. Some blackfin tunas reported with a scattered report of dolphin and a sail off the reefs. We have been getting into nice sized yellowtail snapper, black groupers and HUGE cero mackerels along with a constant bite of bonito and kingfish. Christmas day we boated a nice 30# kingfish for a young lady angler that had always wanted to catch one..There is a ton of bait around easy to net and use for fishing. The live bait just adds to the mess of fish to be caught.

We have some availability in our Deep Sea and wreck and reef fishing trips for 4,6 and 8 hours.

Key West Fishing Forecast December 2012

After an extremely windy November, the winds have finally abated. That is good news for the fishing.

Offshore, there has been a lot of action in Key West’s waters over the past week.  Local captains are reporting a few sailfish and tuna being caught.  And surprising for late November and early December, there are still several dolphin being caught too. On the wrecks and the reef, a number of snapper species are being caught in addition to some nice jacks, permit and barracudas.  However, with the lower winds, the wreck and reef fishing will be much easier and should bring up more grouper and cobia as well.

In the backcountry our winter fishery is picking up. Several reports of nice sized sea trout have been received. In addition, we are seeing good numbers of ladyfish, barracudas, and mangrove snappers. Shark fishing, as usual, has also been good in the shallows, which makes for an exciting trip. With the winds laying down, we can expect to start seeing more mackerel, redfish, and cobia moving inshore as well. Short travel time to the fishing grounds as well as lots of action makes this a great trip for just about anyone.

Dream Catcher Charters captains have also reported seeing some tarpon in the Marquesas Keys lately, so if the weather permits, heading out there may offer some late season sport fishing as well.

Flats And Backcountry Fishing

Over the weekend we got into some stellar backcountry fishing using artificials for large Key West speckled trout up to 24 inches. Thats a beast for Key West. More than that though we have had an EPIC permit fishery this week. On one after noon we had shots at over 50 tailing fish on fly during the “perfect tide”. Flats calm conditions coupled with some very spooky fish made it tough. We did get an eat though and it was a great time.

Over the weekend there were some reports of a good yellowtail bite along with some decent sized muttons landed close to Key West. Further out past the reef there has been a bite of Blackfin Tunas and some sailfish.. Generally I hear about some wahoo on the full moon but not this past cycle.. So.. look for the next full moon to get your Wa Hoo on! I promise it will be a BLAST.

Give us a Call for up to the minute reports of whats happening NOW. We wont bull %&T you. We will tell you like it is.
