March 21 2013 –  Key West Fishing report from Dream Catcher Charters of Key West.

Cobia Fishing Still Strong In Key West

Cobia Fishing Still Strong In Key West

We have been fishing right on the pins here in Key West at Dream Catcher Charters running 6- 10 trips per day for everything under the sun… Judging by the amount of boats we are seeing on the water while we are fishing it seems we are the only ones out there.. Thats fine by us, more fish for our customers..

Our most popular fishing charter this last few weeks has been the tarpon fishing charters.. We have been catering to tarpon anglers now for a few weeks but now its serious.. We have been hitting the tides and hooking up to some substantial fish. Capt. Kyle Kelso boated the first fish over 100lbs this year just yesterday with an repeat client and a Us Soldier.. Cant think of a better guy to get a fish for.

Tarpon fishing report? The bite is on and the fish are here. Get to it.. Check Out Our Newest Tarpon Fishing Photos

I had the pleasure of fishing a few days offshore out west chasing permit and cobia.. What fun that was. We got into some nice fish landing a permit over 20 lbs and a cobia over 40 with many other fish in the box like mangrove snappers and yellowtail snapper. Good times to be had by all here in Key West fishing.

We have a cool set of photos here for Wreck and Reef Fishing.. Check them out..

The weather has been holding up real well. I will say this.. the weather man does not have a clue what is happening so call us before you make an armchair decision on your fishing day.

I am looking forward to fishing the flats in the coming weeks.. Who’s In? Call me and lets get skinny. My flats skiff will be done shortly and I will be ready to pole it. Check out the Build photos on our Dream Catcher Charter FaceBook Fan Page. Be sure to like our face Book Page too.. Here is the link to the Flats Boat Build..

Thanks for stopping by.. We would love for you to stay updated with our fishing reports from Key West whether or not you plan to fish with us..

Windy Conditions Prevail Backcountry Fishing is Hot!

An angler fishing with Capt. Kyle Kelso of Dream Catcher Charters poses with a Key West Redfish.

Windy conditions have prevailed since the Power Boat Race week and expected to continue through next week with a steady 15 – 25 mph out of the NE and East.

Backcountry fishing has been pretty darn good none the less. Here at Dream Catcher Charters we have been running a steady flow of trips with an unseasonably busy November coming off of a particularly great October. Thanks to all of our repeat clientele and much new business to fill our boats with some incredible offseason fishing opportunities.

Trout have been the word. Ever since Dream Catchers broke the news that trout were biting off Key West back in September the bite is still on. The fish move slightly from place to place but be certain that our professional fishing guides are on their tails. Catches lately of 24 inches have hit the board and what a fish that is for Key West or anywhere for that matter. The maturity of our trout fishery here has sure shown itself.

Redfish have been spotty but as the water cools (currently 70 + – 4 depending on time of day and tide) the redfish are finding their way into the winter time haunts and becoing more consistent for our dedicated anglers. Along the way you will also run into the goliath groupers and some large snappers with the occasional smaller snook that eats your offering.

Pompano showed up a few weeks ago. Leave it to our captains to root out these tasty Florida seafood fish. Pompano put up a great fight and offer our anglers one more trophy species to add to the list..

Flats Fishing

Permit fishing has been super strong the last couple weeks. We have been able to offer our clients that want to put in the time a great number of shots at these sought after fish. Bonefishing was slow this year to start with and now seems to have come to a close with the sub 70 degree temps.. Not to say they cannot be found on the ocean facing flats where temps are a little warmer but its not consistent enough for us to consider a “bonefishing” trip,. Barracudas and mutton snappers are the incredible by catch of the flats here in Key West this time of the year. Ya never know where they might be. Mutton snappers up to 7 lbs have been landed by our team here at Dream Catchers.

All in all with the wind we are still showing folks an amazing day on the waters here in Key West on board our bay boats.

Feel free to drop us a line and talk to us about fishing in Key West. We are happy to point you in the right direction.

Cobia Are Coming To Key West

Cobia Fishing Key West, Florida with Capt. Steven Lamp Dream Catcher Charters

The Cobia are coming, The cobia are coming to Key West.

Paul Revere was warning about the british, I am telling you so we can get out there and land a beast for your dinner plate or to scratch one off your bucket list. The cobia are coming to Key West and some are already here.

My last trip to the wrecks was an eco tour. Yep, a trip where the people just wanted to look but not fish or kill. Thats when I saw him. A 40lb slob coming off a shallow wreck just west of Key West and he had an attitude. He knew I had nothing to get him with so he sauntered around like he owned the place. My clients swore he was a shark, who was I to argue the point. After about 5 minutes of this display of face slapping he was joined by two more. They got bolder and almost within gaffing distance against the gin clear waters. I am sure that would have set the tone of my boat gaffing a 40+ green cobia and tossing him in the back of the boat. Oh yea.. that goes over real well. [Read more...]

July brings the heat along with the fish.

Key West fishing report for the last week of July.

Joe and John Berlin catching permit with Capt. Steven Lamp of Dream Catcher Charters

Starting with our wreck and bottom fishing trips, Dream Catcher Charters has had tight lines fishing the shallow water wrecks in the Marquesas Keys for huge permit, barracuda, spanish mackerel, and bonito. From there Capt. Steven headed out west towards the Dry Tortugas. The fishing out there was “red” hot with some fantastic sized mutton snappers and groupers that filled the dinner table with tons filets. Here at Dream Catchers we offer a 10 hour hardcore Dry Tortugas fising charter which is not suited for the faint of heart. Our Anglers arms where about to fall off. Steven put these two through a boot camp of catching fish. It was exhausting just watching these two pull in groupers and snappers one after another.

Switching gears to our Backcountry and Flats Fishing Charters down here in Key West. These trips are still our most popular charters and are great for smaller groups of 2-4 people. Backcountry and Flats fishing is also the most affordable way to get a professional guide to help you land fish. Right now our boys here at Dream Catcher Charters are stalking the shallow waters for elusive permit and bonefish. Getting up on the flat is very exciting and there is nothing like sight casting a trophy fish in just inches of water. If your looking for a laid-back day on the water maybe a family fun fishing or rod bending charter would suit you best. Target shallow water monsters like big sharks that are easy to get into but pull hard enough to really get your blood pumping. From there target species like barracuda and jack crevalle’s and keep your lines tight throughout your Key West Charter.

That’s all I have for you this week!
