Summer Tarpon Still Strong In Key West

The tarpon are still here in Key West.

Here at Dream Catcher Charters the tarpon fishing has not slowed down for our anglers fishing out of Key West every day on our boats. If anything it has gotten better with tarpon being caught early in the morning while it is still tolerable out.

Traditionally tarpon fishing goes right into August and sometimes as late as early October with the larger fish. The baby tarpon fishing we are so famous for is great in the fall months.

Currently we are done with the last full moon. The tides are much more manageable and the tarpon are responding well to crabs, fly and live pin fish.

To get out there all you have to do is call our offices and see what we have available for you to get out there on. Our schedule is not light but we do have some openings.

Stay cool and come see us.. our forecast looks awesome for the next two weeks.

Tarpon Fishing Report

Great Key West Fishing | Happy Anglers

The last week has been an incredible bite on tarpon. Just after the new moon came through the bite went off the rails for live bait and artificial lures in both the morning and afternoon bites.

Key West fishing report Tarpon.

Key West Permit Dave and Capt. Steven Lamp of Dream Catcher Charters

On Tuesday I was out with one of my regulars and we got into some laid up tarpon over some dark grass.. On the falling tide first thing on a slick calm morning that is a great time for a shrimp hatch. Good timing, we were right in the middle of it. Using D.O.A. shrimp on 30lb fluorocarbon with light spin tackle my client Dave was able to leader a 80 lb fish that must have been on steroids, few jumps just hard pulling. Dave followed that up with some barracudas on fly and a nice 24 lb permit on crab. Great day.. HOT day..

Yesterday I was out with Craig on his first day ever fly fishing for tarpon and we had some decent shots. Overcast conditions made sight fishing for them tough so I went to an old stand by spot where I knew the tarpon would be rolling down the edges. Casting was difficult as the winds were up a bit but Craig got his fly to two fish that ate but we just missed the hook set. Nice big flash and boil with that solid bump. Next Year Craig.

Coming up the full moon will make some changes but we are ready. Lots of fishing charters on the books here at Dream Catcher Charters but there is still some more room for anglers looking to do any kind of fishing here in Key West. Call Island Genn 1-888-362-3474

Have a great weekend..

The Tarpon Migration Has Begun.

Quick tarpon fishing report for my readers.

Tarpon Fishing Key West, Florida

Key West Tarpon Fishing WIth Dream Catcher Charters

Fish on the beaches.. fish on the beaches.. Feel like Paul Revere, the British are coming. LOL. Anyway, the long anticipated tarpon migration has started this week. Tarpon are poring in along our favorite little haunts that we find them in year after year. The fishing has been tough for the last week or so with a last minute cold front pushing down from the mid west but the fish made the showing and now Its GAME ON!.

What does this mean? Well, for fly fishing anglers its the dream of a life time to hook and hopefully land a huge tarpon on the fly that they casted to in less than 3 ft of water. To the light tackle spin fishing guy its a chance to hit some big fish with plugs and live baits and watch them eat. Good times to be had by all.

Our boys here at Dream Catcher Charters are running tarpon fishing charters twice a day every day in the nicest fishing boats money can buy from Yellowfin Yachts, Action Craft and now Sea Hunt powered by 2012 Mercury Marine Outboard Motors. Fast to the fish, safe and easy to fight tarpon from our boats here are without a doubt the best in the industry. Using exclusively Daiwa Reels and Key Largo Rods our team leaves little chance of failure.

Tarpon fishing charters are about the most affordable thing going in Key West for fun and excitement. You and a fishing buddy can get on one of our tarpon fishing trips for about 425.00 all inclusive for 4 hours. Add a 3rd or fourth guy for an additional 50.00 per person.

Tarpon Fishing March 7

The blow continues with relief in sight. Full moon cycle prepare accordingly.

Call 1-305-292-7212 to Learn more about up to the minute tarpon report or book a trip.

Today the weather service has announced that the winds will be coming back to a manageable 15 – 20 starting Thursday. Good new too because we have a ton of people looking to go Tarpon fishing. The weather has been the factor on the slower bite this week. The tarpon are still here but just not super active for a great bite.

As we get into our “normal” tarpon season this week where traditionally the big Gulf tarpon move in and feed during the warmer days we will start to notice the weather not having such an impact. This past cold front only dropped the backcountry water temps 8 degrees.

The Full moon is here. Plan accordingly. If you want the best for a bite on tarpon book in the afternoons and evening. The fish feed all night long on a full moon so the morning bite can be slow unless super overcast conditions prevail, then, a super feed can take place and the fish will be jumping in the boat.

We have openings for your tarpon fishing fun adventure in the afternoons. Call my office 1-305-292-7212 and get on the schedule.

If we see that the bite will not produce for you we don’t hold you to the trip.. Its simple.
