For the last several years my company Dream Catcher Charters has been proud to be the title sponsor of the Key West Fishing Tournament. The longest running tournament of its kind now in its 51st year. An 8 month fish catching event that gathers entries from all anglers of all skill levels and ages that go fishing in the Key West waters to compete for year end awards.

Participation in this event has always been great. Anyone who fishes the waters near Key West can enter their catch whether its released or legally harvested. Awards are given to the winners with the larger fish in both mens, women, different line class divisions, age group for flats fishing, general and light tackle divisions. Anyone can enter a fish. Anglers can compete fishing from their boat, a guided boat or from shore as long as the catch is weighed or documented at one of the local weigh stations. Its really easy.

Helping with this tournaments success are the local fishing guides who participate. Hard working individuals who want to promote the Key West fishery to their clients in a unique way. Fishing guides can enter an angler in the tournament and make each one of their released or harvested fish count toward a citation or an award. This turns out to be a fantastic way for anglers to remember the fun they had in Key West fishing with one of our talented fishing guides. A great way to commemorate a catch and promote this amazing fishery. Its a win – win for everyone involved.

This weekend is the awards dinner for the 2015 Tournament season. This is a who’s who in fishing guides of Key West. Some of the best names in the industry of guided fishing charters. Many pioneers and legends to the sport. I always see a number of new fishing guides eager to get their clients on the board. A great event that is hosted by the Double Tree Grand Key Resort right here in Key West.

I would personally like to thank the Key West Fishing Tournament and their board of directors for their hard work and support for this very important event. Also, all of the other sponsors for seeing the value like I have in promoting this event I really believe it helps all of us. And last but hardly the least – The fishing guides. Without the guides this tournament would not be a thing. Together we can all promote our fishery, take care of it and do what we love to do — Take people fishing.
