Deep Sea Fishing Report

Anglers targeting deep sea species have enjoyed productive outings this week. The waters surrounding Key West are teeming with a diverse array of fish, providing anglers with plenty of action and opportunities to reel in some impressive catches. Here are some of the highlights:

Mahi-Mahi (Dolphin Fish): Mahi-mahi fishing has been excellent, many of the boats are reporting multiple hookups throughout the day. These colorful and acrobatic fish have been found near weed lines, floating debris, and under the birds. Some days we had to make a run for it out to 700 – 900 ft and other days we are hooking them in less than 500. Anglers targeting mahi-mahi have also encountered schools of smaller fish, providing non-stop action and excitement.

Wahoo Caught on board the INXS out of Key West.

Wahoo fishing has been productive, particularly for anglers venturing out to deeper waters beyond the reef. A few wahoo have been caught in the last days of the full moon. Wahoo are known for their blistering runs and aggressive feeding behavior, making them a prized catch among experienced anglers.

Blackfin tuna have been abundant around offshore wrecks and humps, providing anglers with exciting battles on light tackle. Jigging with metal jigs or live baiting with pilchards and small fish have been effective techniques for targeting these voracious predators. The INXS out of Key West put some nice tunas in the box for their anglers just the other day.

Sailfish action has been steady, with anglers encountering these majestic billfish both offshore and along the reef edge. Slow trolling with live bait or kite fishing techniques have been very productive in enticing strikes from sailfish. Anglers targeting sailfish have also had success with trolling using teasers, drawing aggressive strikes from these acrobatic fish.
