March 2 2013 – Still bumpy but getting better tarpon are in the harbor of Key West and eating pretty well.

The weather is really sticking us in the side for a good solid start up on the tarpon fishing here in Key West. Inconsistent is the word for this year 2013 so far as the fronts have no timing, the cool offs don’t last long and the fish are completely confused..

This weekend we have a massive cool down that I think will negatively affect the tarpon fishing for the week to come. Sunday and Monday look shot with high temps only reaching the mid 60’s and winds still our of the North. (tarpon hate that). A bounce back tuesday for temps but maybe not enough or long enough as another front approaches on Wednesday through Friday with another chill down.

My bet is that Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning might be alright for the bite.. The fish are not leavening so a little warm trend may just turn them on.

Its going to be a windy week non the less… Backcountry fishing will be the game and your fishing guide will have to pull out all the stops to make the Silver King make an appearance for you on the end of your line this week…
