Tarpon Fishing Report

Tarpon Jumping Tarpon Time IN January

May 8th 2013 Tarpon Fishing Report for Key West Florida and the Surrounding waters. By Capt. Steven Lamp

The migration is on. Tarpon are flooding the South and North sides of Key West in HUGE numbers. We are seeing fish ranging in size from 30 – 130 lbs. Most of the fish you will see are moving from West to East on the beaches (South Side) of Key West. The tarpon are traveling in large groups and surfacing frequently .

What Are The Tarpon Doing?

As the tarpon are moving through you will notice them balling up or circling each other. This what we call a “daisy Chain” and is a mating ritual. When the tarpon are performing this behavior its best to lay off of them for a few minutes and wait for them to string out again. We would hate to interrupt anything that will improve the fishery….. : )

The Captains here are Dream Catcher Charters have been running both sides of the day. Early in the mornings and the evening runs for some last minute opportunities. Both trips have been super successful during this new moon session and we expect that to continue through the weeks to come.

We still have some openings for tarpon fishing here at Dream Catchers..
