The last few days have been typical May tarpon time. The weather has been windier than most Mays I can remember but that has not stopped the flow of fish. With super gin clear waters on the Atlantic side the bite can be tough both on fly and light tackle. We have been super busy here at Dream Catcher Charters. Running every day its easy to stay on top of the tarpon and know exactly where they are headed, what they are doing and eating from one minute to the next.

The last few days I have been fishing all the arenas where we normally see them and there has been no shortage of fish.  I expect this will continue for a few more weeks to come. Most of the time we are into the tarpon through the end of June into July.  The heavy flow of migrational tarpon may start to trickle down in the 2nd week of June however there will be many tarpon laying around for anglers to have targets at.

The Atlantic fish have responded well to slow moving darker patterns as well as live bait such as crabs and pin fish. In the backcountry black patterns and live bait are the ticket. Seems the fish that are in the backcountry are more apt to eat.

This week coming up the weather has been a little drippy in the forecast period. With a low hanging over the South Western Gulf of Mexico pumping moisture into our area liberally. We needed the rain and we are hoping the the rain will also cool off the waters. This should have little effect on our tarpon fishing actually bringing more of a tropical – humid effect on our weather patterns here in the lower keys and Key West.

Tarpon fishing charters are traditionally a busy time for us here in Key West. We fill up fast and June is no exception. Give us a call and we will make sure you get a good shot at a Key West tarpon.
