April 4th 2017 – Key West Tarpon Fishing Report and Forecast. We have been seeing a good steady pattern of weather. No crazy dips or dives on the pressure and certainly not a drop of rain. The winds have been pretty mellow for the first week of April. Looks like March went out like a lamb instead of the ferocious tiger it is known for here in Key West. But all bets were off yesterday and it looks like we are in for a bit of a sleigh ride through this weekend.

This past week has shown our anglers a good bit of fish for a slow start to the 2017 tarpon season. I am excited about the way the season is kicking off but a little concerned. Many of my guide friends from up in the mainland like Ft Myers, St. Pete and Sarasota are starting to see a good number of fish with their warmer water temps. I don’t really think that the tarpon have passed us by like many of my lesser seasoned colleagues that are running around like Chicken Little are claiming.

This week coming up will certainly be a little out of the Norm for us here in Key West for April as temps will dip into the 60s once again for what we hope to be one last cold front. The tarpon will be around and my guess is that we will still have shots at them even on the cooler days. I can remember many days in April where I was fishing for tarpon in a jacket with gloves on even. But.. I am also a Florida Boy and anything under 75 is frigid.

The following weeks forecast is filling in and it looks to be a little bumpy with hard Easterlies on Monday and Tuesday but the temps are back up to 80. Our schedule is jammed up pretty tight with some availability to get folks out there and enjoy some fun tarpon fishing.
