Its Reef Fishing Time!
Reef fishing time here out of Key West Florida.
April 25th 2017 – The winds of the spring are starting to subside and Grouper season opens in just a few days here in the Atlantic waters off of Key West. Its time to start thinking about the reef. Not only for the grouper but for all of it. There will be SOOO much going on in May, June and July it will be truly ridiculous.
Like I said May 1 is opening day of Grouper season. Check your regs to see what you are allowed to keep and kill by looking at The Florida Saltwater Fishing Regulations. The predominant species of grouper that we get here on the reefs out of Key West are; Black grouper, red grouper, gag grouper and scamp. Thats without going into the deep water grouper complex (See: Deep dropping). So, if you want to get your grouper on, you need to get on a trip that offers reef fishing and book at least a 6 hour day. Why 6 hours? Because you want to catch a few nice grouper. This gives the captain a chance to run to the fish. The mentality of closer / easier does not apply to grouper fishing out of Key West.
Our 6 hour grouper fishing trips start at 950.00 for 4 persons on board our 36ft Yellowfin center console. With a cruising speed of 42 mph we can get to the grouper fast with time to spare catching snappers too.
Did Someone Say SNAPPERS? Yes I did.. Snapper fishing is also very good in all 12 months of the year and especially good in May, June, July and August. Yellowtail snapper, mutton snapper, mangrove snappers, lane snappers and a few more. Snappers certainly add to a colorful box of fish when we get to them out of Key West.
Our Reef fishing charters are a lot of fun. A great time for everyone to catch a fish and bring it to the dinner table. Give our office a call and we will set you up on a great trip you will really enjoy.
