Still Tarpon Season In Key West

Key West Tarpon Fishing Report

Jumping Tarpon Key West fishing for tarpon.

May 28 2018 – Sub Tropical Storm Alberto was a non event and the fish are out there. With the winds and rains coming to a close for this week as Alberto passes to our North and North West to go visit our friends in the pan handle of Florida we are getting back to normal here at Dream Catcher Charters. Back on schedule for tarpon season 2018.

I was looking over the weather maps and computer models for us here in the tropics for the next few weeks and it looks fabulous! Winds are coming down and the rains will get back to our normal summer pattern with afternoon showers and thunderstorms. The heat will be coming up as a high will establish over the State of Florida. We are coming off a full moon over the weekend and the tides will be really good. Good thing to, we have a lot of trips on the books here for our Key West fishing.

The week before Sub Tropical Strom Alberto came through, the Key West tarpon fishing was super slow. It was that way for tarpon fishing in the Florida Keys from Key Largo to Key West. The tarpon just seemed to have left for a week. Right before the storm the bite came on with a vengeance. Maybe it was pre frontal, maybe they had just gotten back from taking a break. Whatever the case be, lets hope they are here to stay for a good while and put on some shows.

Typically June tarpon fishing in Key West can be EPIC. We have not had summer like conditions yet but I betcha by the end of this coming week, we will and the tarpon will respond accordingly. Only time will tell. I cannot wait to get into those fast calm days where our tarpon are lazy rolling looking for a snack. Check out our Key West Fishing Seasons web page to learn more about what fish to fish for and when.
