Key West Tarpon Fishing New Year

December 26th 2021 – The weather here in Key West is extremely favorable for a winter tarpon fishing bite here in Key West. Not completely unusual but very real possibility to get out in the shallows and find the big guys lurking around and ready to eat a lively bait.

Tarpon Fishing Report

We had a pretty mild cold front push through last week dropping out temps down to 66 degrees for a day or two and that slowed the tarpon bite down a little but it quickly rebounded. The tarpon have been staying in the deeper channels in between the flats making use of the massive amount of baitfish we have here in Key West this time of the year. We have been using live bait and artificial to get them to eat. The best bet this time of the year is to book our backcountry fishing charter to have the best shot at tarpon.

Tarpon Fishing Forecast

While I never tell anyone that December or January is great Key West tarpon fishing, it can be awesome. Warm weather between cold fronts can really spark a good bite where we have been seeing them. No guarantees but we always keep an eye peeled for them for our anglers to get a winter tarpon.

Tarpon Fishing Charters

Like I mentioned in the Tarpon fishing forecast we will not book a Key West fishing charter with a promise of great shots at tarpon in December or in January. Always be open to catching other species knowing we are going to make sure you have a shot at tarpon if they are around. That said… We are feverish about finding them always and make our best efforts to put our anglers on them.

Tarpon Fishing Season 2022

We are booking like crazy with folks wanting to go tarpon fishing this year coming up. Seems that Key West is the only place people wish to go in the new age of doing things. Tarpon fishing season is right around the corner.

Pro Tip- Call early and book your fishing charters. We have a 7 day cancelation policy in case your dates get messed up.
