Tarpon Are Starting To Show Up In Key West

tarpon Tarpon fishing in Key West in July fishing tips, times to go.

March 2 2022 – Its the first week in March and tarpon are starting to show up here in Key West. A few fish were caught last week with our professional fishing guides here at Dream Catcher Charters in Key West.

I was out yesterday and saw pretty good signs that the tarpon are starting to show here in our channels and ditches East and West of Key West. Pretty good sized tarpon and kind of the norm this time of the year in comparison to the last 28 years I have fished for them in Key West. I am in hopes that this will be a good indicator of a back to normal tarpon season. The last two years have been a little slow. Maybe they all had COVID and were socially distancing OR they were told not to travel.

Capt. Tommy of Dream Catcher Charters has another happy client releasing a Key West Tarpon.

Typically a good cold winter will sort of force a strong tarpon season. We had that. It got chilly down here in Key West and things should be on track for an amazing year catching tarpon here at Dream Catcher Charters. With that in mind, our weather looks pretty good to keep our water temps up to the mid 70s here locally. This will ensure perfect all be-it windy (normal) conditions for tarpon fishing in March.

This time of the year our spin fishing anglers do the best with live bait and artificial lures to catch tarpon in Key West. We are happy to use either and are always set up for both. Some of our anglers wish to use fly fishing techniques this time of the year for tarpon and that is pretty tough to do in March.

Booking a tarpon fishing charter is easy here at Dream Catchers to fish with me or any of our professional fishing guides. We use 24 ft bay boats that are custom outfitted for exactly what we do. State of the art everything from electronics to our fishing gear and tackle.
