January Tarpon Fishing Report

tarpon jumping when hooked

January 29th 2024 – The January tarpon fishing report is being written today on a hard 25 mph North Wind and temps that plummeted about 15 degrees since yesterday morning (good day to write). The water temps have dropped significantly. There is a good chance that none of this will apply today, tomorrow or even next week totally possible it will not be great for tarpon fishing in Key West past the first week of February.

Tarpon Fishing Report

Our backcountry fishing charters have been very busy this month. We are blessed with many folks wanting to go fishing here at Dream Catcher Charters. With the warmer days and mid seventies water temps things are primed for some tarpon fishing opportunities. And we got them. Some of our folks were able to jump a few fish these last few days. Sadly nothing was landed. However they were here. Ranging in size from 30 to 85 lbs. The typical spots we find them in March were holding fish last week. Good stuff and a welcome surprise for our anglers. Keep in mind we do not consider January a tarpon fishing month…

Tarpon Fishing Forecast

The long range forecast looks awful through the 5th. We will have a slight warming trend on Sunday but I think not enough to bring the silver kings back to the line up. Backcountry fishing will be very good with the other species.

I like to say tarpon season starts in Mid March for us here in Key West. I think it’s safe to book the last week or two of the month for a good shot at big fish. Tarpon fishing is what we do here at Dream Catcher Charters. We are happy to get you on our schedule. Our 4 hour trips start at 600.00 for two anglers on board some of the nicest bay boats made for the sport.. Give us a call.
