Your read right folks.. Red Snapper has a season now. Not much of one but none the less a chance to get at these tasty fish with the food table in mind…. Two whole weekends to catch red snapper.

What? you didnt know we had Genuine American Red Snapper here in Key West? Well, not many people do. Back before they closed Red Snapper on the East Coast my clients and I used to go out and wear them out. On my boat we have caught red snapper in the 30 lb range. Day in and day out I was able to limit the boat out in a couple of hours of fishing.

MAKE SURE>>. if you are going to book a day of Red Snapper fishing with a Key West fishing guide that they have experience and know where to go. This fishery although prolific is very specific in area, there are only a handful of guides that know that area as well as we do. Don’t sign on to a goose chase. IF you are coming down on your own with your own boat, we will be happy to point you in the right direction for fishing South of Key West for American Reds.

The fishery here in VERY healthy almost to the point where the red snappers are a nucience by catch for us as fishing guides because we were not allowed to keep them and they were so ravenous the red snappers would hit our baits faster than our targeted species.

Red Snapper for those that dont know it are arguably the BEST eating salt water food fish. Ranging in size from 2 – 45 lbs. A nice white filet and lots of yield. These fish have been the target of hot debates between recreational and commercial fisherman for a very long time.

GOOD NEWS>. We will be adding True American Red Snapper to our species list in September for the dates we have to fish for them at no extra charge. Add that to the already EPIC reef fishing we have here in Key West and you have a cornucopia of fishing possibilities that include; Mutton Snapper, Red Grouper, Black Grouper and yellowtail snapper.

I have full day trips heading out on my 32 Ft Center Console the “Intense” any day of the week to fish for these tasty Red Snapper.. We are excited about an opportunity to go for them again.
