Fishing Report For Key West

Capt. Steven Lamp Capt. Steven Lamp Key West Veteran Fishing Guide

May 27th 2013 — Soggy conditions will take over the Blue skies for a few days here in Key West bringing a wet blanket over the killer fishing we have been experiencing for the last several weeks.

Wow, as soon as you think, Hey…. its over.. 5 -10 and we win.. Whammo Mother nature re assures us she is the HBIC. The forecast this week is one of the worst I have seen in May in a very long time. A strong low pressure compliments of our friends in the Yucatan is headed our way with a large but moderate circulation.. My opinion this is the line in the sand that separates the winter northern patterns from the fronts that hit us from the South. The tropical weather pattern has just begun  TODAY… As i sit here in Sugarloaf Key and its Pouring rain I am assured that weather is a coming..

Hows the backcountry Fishing? Its tough. reports from the backcountry today were off from that just 24 hours ago. The tarpon bite was hard this afternoon as the winds were approaching 20 – 25 mph out of the East South East. Jacks, snappers, and sharks were reported by the men here at Dream Catcher Charter for their afternoon efforts, Good thing.. thats what they were targeting for some young anglers. Sight fishing was a challenge in the winds but some permit were seen up on the tops of the flats.

Offshore I have nothing for you except over the weekend the Florida Keys Dolphin Championship was won by a guy out of Big Pine Key with a 42 lb fish.. Nice work. I have no reports from today out of Key West except that the offshore deep sea guys are still planing on getting out there tomorrow in the wind..

The Fishing Forecast.. With the weather we are watching it looks as though the week to come after Memorial Day will be hit or miss. They are calling for winds up to 25 and rain chances most days this week into the 60 percent range.. Yuck.. But the show must go on..

Bad Weather Forecast Fishing Tips —- If the weather looks favorable for a short while DO NOT Hesitate to call a fishing guide and set up a last minute ride to go get your fishing thing on.. Tarpon trips are especially good for this as we can be in the fish in a mater of minutes and we would LOVE to fill the gaps of our schedules of the guys who Bailed on us for the bad weather..
