The Sport fishing boat Easy Rider Gets a nice dolphin out of Key West

I remember thinking back in March when we were enjoying the 5-10 mph wind days that we were going to catch hell later in the spring. I was thinking maybe it would be April. Nope it wound up being May. Unseasonably windy weather prevails here in Key West making fishing tough. Good news is the fishing is good when you can get in front of them.

In all the arenas that I have looked into before tomorrows full moon there have been some amazing reports of great fishing even in Spite of the 30 mph winds and the occasional rain thunderstorm here out of Key West.

Deep Sea Fishing the winds have stacked the seas to 6-9 ft against a very strong easterly bound current. Lots of really big dolphin have been caught. The full moon is coming and the Marlin bite may be on, also look for the wahoo. Our boats have been doing very well on some short lived trips. The Easy Rider has had some stellar catches of dolphin before 11 am and the people were just too fatigued and seasick to continue. Fish up to 50 lbs. NICE…!!..

Backcountry Fishing has been super busy. We have been whacking the tarpon like crazy. The tarpon fishing bite has been very good and coming up to the full moon we have noticed an unusual improvement. We thing the fish will eat well through the moon as the night is dark with storms keeping the light down making the tarpon feed harder during the day.

The flats fishing has been doing “ok” the tarpon are on the flats and migrating right on schedule. I have noticed the permit are back and have seen some bonefish. These big tides with the full moon are great opportunities to look for permit. They love the big water and lots of current with the tide changes..  The hardest part is the wind. With these high winds there is lots of surface grass and hard to see the fish before they are under the boat.

We are setting our sights for the last week of May and all of June for great weather when this high pressure lifts off our heads. The flats fishing for tarpon, permit and bonefish will continue to get better. The offshore bite has just started for summer. Time to get your fish on!.
