September 21st 2014 – While most of the country is experiencing a nice pleasant drop in temperatures and humidity, here in Key West we get the dull rumble of the motorcycles on US 1 from our famous bike week as our main indication that fall has arrived here in Key West. Our temps have lowered just a tad to the high 80’s but the humidity has cranked up with the mid swing through our tropical season.

September is usually a drippy time here in Key West. Monsoon season as its called in some countries but thats not to keep us from fishing. With 30 – 80 % chances of rain throughout the days we still get out there with light winds and make it happen.

Here at Dream Catcher Charters me and the guys have been unseasonably busy. Folks are coming to Key West these weeks  to experience the lighter room rates and less crowds to get out with us and fish. With that we have been able to show our people some nice days on the water.

On the flats fishing front this is bonefishing season. The cooler water temps and the less traffic bonefish are just a 15 minute boat ride from our marina. Chum them up to bring them to the boat and make for an easy cast or do it the good ol fashioned way and pole them down on my state of the art flats skiffs. Either way you will get your shots this time of the year and if the last few days have been any indication, you will probably get your bonefish. Bonefishing is awesome but we also like to get shots at permit. Anyone that has fished with me or the guys here at Dream Catchers knows we are a little obsessed with the permit and this time of the year is awesome for them. We have seen fish in great numbers since late August and expect the permit fishing to hold up till late October.

I personally am fishing the flats fishing trips on the BeaverTail Elite 18 ft flats boat. There is still some room in my schedule to get out there with me this fall and get your bonefish or permit on.

Much like flats fishing but we call it Backcountry fishing opens up an anglers opportunities to catch a larger variety of fish for the same time and money. The backcountry fishing has been picking up with the cooler water temps starting us early into what we call our winter fishery. Catches of some nice trout have been reported with some very large jacks along the way. Mixed in what them are the pompano and the smaller jacks with some lady fish offering our backcountry fishing anglers a great day on the water.  Throw in on top of that a shot at some tarpon first thing in the morning or a chance to catch a really big shark. There is always something to do in the backcountry.

Our reef fishing is holding up really well here this past week and we expect it to stay strong as well. We offer a reef fishing trip on board our bay boats to get you some good grub for dinner. Yellowtail snapper have been eating very well on bait and artificial with some nice catches of grouper and mutton snapper to color up the box.

All these trips are available here every day in Key West with us here at Dream Catcher Charters. We go the extra mile to show you a great day on the water with great attitudes and awesome equipment. Just give us a call. Check out our “real” customer reviews on Trip Advisor and see what folks that have been out with us think about our service..
