October Is For Bonefishing Key West

bonefish

Bonefish are here in Key West. October is our best month for Key West bonefishing.

October 4th 2014 – As a veteran fishing guide here in Key West I have to say October is without a doubt my favorite month to go flats fishing. Along with some amazing permit fishing which we talk about all the time, we also have consistent bonefishing and our bonefish here in Key West are growing up big.

We have always had a really good fishery of bonefish here in Key West but for the exception of an isolated larger fish we did not have the size of bonefish we have today. Back 10 years ago we could catch all the 2-3 lb bonefish and angler could want. Now we are tipping the 4-7 lb range. Still no Islamorada or Key Largo monster but a great fish all the same and not too hard for our anglers to catch on fly or spin fishing gear. Our bonefish here in Key West just seem to be a little (well lets say) “slower” than the upper Florida Keys neighbors.

I have found most of the bonefish we catch this time of the year are pretty fat and super strong. The numbers of fish are all relative to the spot, but where we are seeing 5 there are 50 lurking around in many other groups.

Bonefishing with us here at Dream Catcher Charters is lots of fun. As I stated earlier our bonefish make it a little easier for anglers that might be a little intimidated by the reputation they have for being evasive, fickle and hard to see. We will get you in them, we just ask you not to miss by too far on your cast. We use both bay boats and flats fishing boats to go bonefishing and the choice is up to our anglers. Our bay boats are mobilized by our state of the art Motorguide Trolling motors and the flats boat that I fish is mobilized by my Stiffy Push pole.. The flats fishing boat gets you in super shallow water at fish that may be a little bit more spooky and the bay boat is for an easier group of fish with lots of help from your fishing guide.

We gotcha covered… Check it out at Dream Catcher Charters or learn more about my Flats Fishing at Capt. Steven Lamp Flats Fishing. Give us a call and lets get out there..
