Key West Christmas Week Fishing Forecast

Kingfish Key West On The Reef

December 21 2016 – Warm and breezy will be the start to Christmas week. Not much of a change till the end of the week just before New years day with a light cold front approaching dropping us back to a frigid low 70s mark for a low while the rest of the country will be digging out f

Kingfish are a popular big fish to hunt on Christmas week here fishing Key West

rom another Snow-Mageddon. Winds will be the big consideration starting this Christmas weekend for our offshore deep sea fishing and reef fishing folks. Hold on tight and take your sea sick meds, its gonna get sloppy after the weekend, see more about that later in this report.

About every 5 years we get a Christmas week like this.. Warm and balmy while the rest of the world is frigid and frozen. But, its good for business, especially the fishing business here at Dream Catcher Charters. Our schedule is getting stacked up to capacity on some dates with some decent holes to fill on others. If you are looking to get out and do some fishing.. Don’t hesitate to call. Gennifer is filling in the gaps.

Backcountry fishing will be the way to go next week. We have both our winter species and our summer species here offering all of our sport fishermen kick ass presents under the trees. See Capt. Nicks Christmas week backcountry fishing report. Easy fishing and won’t kill you with rough waves and easy on the budget.

Deep sea fishing is the gamble. Both on weather and on the fishing. I have seen warm Christmas weeks like this really produce for our anglers with South winds bringing up the big dolphin (mahi mahi). Mixed with sailfish, kingfish, tuna and some wahoo. But, to be fare, its gonna be rough. Rough waters, short travel time and great fishing – you weigh it out and see if its your game.. Give us a call we think its a good bet this Holiday week. The catch is.. Book ahead and roll the dice. Book a split charter last minute and you can play the weather.

Reef fishing might be the challenging one. Although we love to fish in the winds (not) being on the hook (anchored) trying for a yellowtail, kingfish or the last grouper of the season might be the “Barf Barge express” once these winds come up to 20 mph and start bucking the current on the reef. Best times to think about the reef fishing will be either Tomorrow (thursday December 22) and Friday or Next Friday Saturday (December 28, 29 and 30th) before the next cold front.

So there you have it. An awesome week to come to the Florida Keys and Key West and get out of the cold frozen tundra.
