September Tarpon

Tarpon Fishing Key West in September

Jumping Tarpon The fury of a hooked tarpon is amazing

September 15th 2018 – The mildest summer I can remember. Winds are a little higher than norm for the exception of the last few days where it has been flat calm and perfect. Still not too hot. This last new moon phase pulled some serious water through the Key West area with higher than average tides and some great backcountry fishing for tarpon.

The captains here at Dream Catcher Charters have been doing very well on out of season tarpon fishing out of Key West. Its not unusual to have tarpon here in Key West during September especially the smaller “baby tarpon”. We are seeing some nice sized fish ranging in size from 20 – 75lbs. The nice part is this time of the year these tarpon are equally attainable by fly rod or spin fishing tackle. Im not sure how long it will last but it sure is nice.

Flats Fishing has been epic this year in what we call the “Slam” Season. We are seeing great numbers of bonefish and permit in addition to the tarpon that are around.

We are experiencing the busiest September on record this year here at Dream Catcher Charters. We feel very fortunate to be able to fish every day and take advantage of the great fishery  that has been provided to us this year. What a great time to go fishing in Key West. The crowds are light and the fishing is amazing.
