Tarpon, fishing, release
There are few things more thrilling in fishing than bringing a tarpon along boat side.

The tarpon came in droves these last few weeks like they do every year at this time. They are pretty much everywhere and the conditions are right for everyone that loves to chase them to get hooked up. However it is that you may like to fish for tarpon. Live bait, Sight casting artificial lures or fly fishing for them this is your time. We are seeing plenty of fish in the channels, on the flats and in the harbor. The bite has been varied from one day to the next, like all fishing some days are better than others. I really like the beginning of May when the migration fish first show up, they tend to be very hungry and ready to eat most anything that I throw at them.

Tarpon have become a major bucket list fish species for many anglers. Due to their size, nearly year round seasons, aerobatic display when fighting while hooked up, ease of getting to them and the lower cost associated with hiring a fishing charter to target them tarpon have become the number one sport fish of Key West.

Backcountry fishing is without a doubt the most popular fishing charter in Key West and the best way to fish for tarpon here. Always calm and fish-able, especially this time of the year as our winds lay down and get ready for the still waters of summer like conditions. We use live bait, artificial lures and fly rods to fish for tarpon from our bay boats.

Here at Dream Catcher Charters we specialize in tarpon fishing out of Key West. May, June, July, August, September and October are excellent times to come to Key West and go tarpon fishing. May being one of our more popular months as its the beginning of the migration and a month before the rest of the country starts their fishing. We still have some availability here in May for more bookings on our backcountry fishing charters for tarpon. We do 4 and 6 hour trips on board our 24 ft bay boats that carry up to 4 anglers.
