Reef Fishing For Dinner

Key West reef fishing For Dinner.

July 25th 2019 – The weather has been PERFECT! I usually start my Key West fishing reports off with a bit about the weather, but its just perfect and looks to stay that way for the next 10 days that I can see. The reef fishing has been the highlight for Key West fishing at Dream Catcher Charters with all the folks focused on lobstering yesterday and today the reefs have been quite nice and quiet.

Fishing Report

Yellowtail snappers, mutton snappers, big snappers in a box of snappers
A box like this is very nice after a day of mixed snapper fishing here reef fishing Key West.

The snapper bite is the part that I love the most about our reef fishing here in Key West right now. This time of the year the commercial yellowtail snapper fishermen have hit quota and most are focused on getting lobster traps ready for lobster season that starts on the 6th. So they are not fishing.. That means the snappers are hungry and ready to eat. Its simple math.

With calm seas our reef fishing charters have been very good catching yellowtail snappers on a 4 or 6 hour day. Some of my yellowtail snapper catches have included fish up to 6 lbs with some days averaging around 2 lbs. Limits of 10 per person are not hard to come by if everyone stays in the game. That is a really good size filet and lots of fish to take home.

Reef fishing charters are the way to go this time of the year to catch food fish, especially tasty snappers like the ones shown here. Fishing charters with a reputable fishing guide is the best way to go for catching food fish like yellowtail snipers, mutton snapper, vermillion snapper, mangrove snapper, and other reef fish. Half day reef fishing charters start at 750.00 and go up depending on the size of the boat. The boats are usually center consoles ranging in size from 26 to 36 ft. I personally use a 36ft Yellowfin center console powered by triple Mercury 400 Verados to get me and my anglers out to the reef and fish for snappers. See my Key West Fishing Rates.
