March 12th 2020 – March fishing promises a great reef bite every year and this year has been no exception. Now that the winds have come down to a nice 10-15 we are able to get our people out on the water and show them a great time. The weather looks like it will hold steady through at least the next week (looks like winter may be over) and offer us some substantial opportunities to go out and enjoy some great key west fishing. Especially the Tasty Kind..

Reef Fishing Report

Yellowtail snappers went on the chew right after the winds this week. Nice sized “Tails” have made it to the dinner tables here in Key West after the charters. Mutton snappers have also been a great target as well. They seem to be biting very well during the full moon this week. We are mostly fishing in the 30 – 90ft range right off the reef for these tasty fish thats not a long run. On the patch reefs we are seeing a good number of decent sized mangrove snappers mixed with yellowtails and mutton snapper as well. This was a welcome event when the winds were howling last week. Along with the great snapper fishing we have been catching some nice yellowjacks, cero mackerels and kingfish.

Reef fishing Forecast

We are expecting nothing but good weather here in the coming weeks. This will usher in some great fishing as well on the reef, deep sea fishing and tarpon fishing in the backcountry. I expect the snapper bite to continue. In May 1 we have the opening of the Atlantic grouper season as well adding to the mix of a great bag of fish anglers can fish for.

Still looking for the March of the sailfish in these Easterly winds just off the reef. I bet it will be soon and the deep sea fishing guys will be super happy.
