Deep Sea Fishing Is Heating Up This Week

Key West deep sea fishing was pretty good last week. We are hoping to keep the trend going.

June 26 2020 – As we race into summer and the solstice is behind us the dog days of summer become a daily thing with lighter winds and hot days. With the winds up a little this weekend the weather offers me a break to sit and pen out a deep sea fishing report.

Last week was pretty darn good deep sea fishing in the blue waters here off of Key West. We had some nice catches of not only numerous but some large dolphin up to 40lbs here in the Key West deep sea fishing fleet. June typically holds some good numbers but as we wane into July those numbers tend to get smaller. There is nothing wrong with a smaller dolphin for table fare at all, in fact they are my favorite. However the larger ones certainly put up the fight.

Here at Dream Catcher Charters Capt. Rob managed to land some nice fish on board the “Too Intense” our 36ft Yellowfin center console up to 30lbs for his folks looking to fish out there. One of our friends that gets out on his own found some luck with black fin tunas out deep getting crazy under some birds. Nice work Kirk. Its all in how you see it.

Tips: Learn How To Read

As with any fishing situational awareness is key learning how to read the signs. Knowing where and what the Gulf Stream is doing in relation to the reef line really helps in catching bigger fish. Understanding the weed lines and how they line up is a great way to read the current under them as the winds cross them. Following the right birds engaged in productive activity is key as well. Birds just flying along on a path are not so interesting as the ones working diligently in one place up and down going with the current for dolphin and up current for tunas most of the time. The frigates will hang high and do circles when they are waiting for a sport fish to push up some bait and dive when he does.. So, paying attention really pulls the most out of your day, might even turn it from Chickens To Slammers or maybe even a visit from the Man In The blue Suit (marlin).

Deep sea fishing is what we do here in Key West, among other things. We have the tools and the talent to get you and your group out there for some fun in the blue waters of the Gulf Stream.
