Fishing Report

Key West deep dropping is a great way to save a day of Deep fishing if it is slow.

The past week has been steady action for fishing both inshore and offshore. We just came by the full moon where the tides and water movements can be super drastic. A couple of the nights during the brightest part of the moon were very over cast so that happened the fish eating at night and turned them on during the day. Inshore the moon can have its affect on tarpon and offshore the effect is on the dolphin.

The reef bite was pretty good with plenty of nice size yellowtail snapper and mutton snappers being taken to lunch. Many of the snapper species spawn during the late spring through the summer.

The Flats fishing has been incredible. After the storms got done doing their thing last week the flats heated up with the continuation of the tarpon migration and tailing bonefish with permit. I will say it again The flats fishing this past week has been epic. I have enjoyed some amazing flats fishing trips with my clients and next week I have a bunch more. I love it when my schedule keeps me in the arena of the best Key West fishing.

Deep sea fishing has been a little lack luster this last week. Some dolphin are being found in god numbers but not a great sizes. Mostly schoolies this past week for the Key West Deep sea fishing fleet with the occasional sailfish and skip jacks. toward the end of the week the gulfstream worked its way closer to Key West.

Key West Fishing Forecast

Coming up I see no changes in the forecast for fishing or the weather to fish it in. All the way through the 10 day period coming up we have the typical East To South East breezes with heat and humidity. So, it will be a typical June.

I expect the tarpon fishing to be super strong the next few weeks. Flats fishing will be amazing right through the month of October. This will be a great time for anyone looking to scratch that bucket list item off.

The reef fishing will continue to be amazing with snappers and grouper as the weather holds off the high winds the boats will be able to get out and catch them, therefore more fishing reports. This time of the year good weather is all it takes to make great reef fishing.

Deep sea fishing will be the one to watch for improvement. The dolphin fishing has been more July like with smaller fish being caught between 500 and 1000 ft. However there was a report of a nice blue marlin raised yesterday and some isolated catches of wahoo and sailfish. I am hoping that the Gulf Stream starts setting up the weed lines for us to hammer some nice fish next week. I am fishing my 47 Viking “INXS” the end of next week so I will certainly see whats out there.
