Reef Fishing Report June 10

Temperature is getting warmer and the reef fishing is getting Hot!

Yellowtail snappers Large yellowtail snappers like these are available if you know where to look.

June 10th 2019 The calendar may not say that summer is here but the temps certainly do. With temps soaring into the 90s its no guess what time of the year it is here in Key West. The waters surrounding Key West are in a constant flow so water temps do not reflect the heat like some coastal areas therefore not shutting down our reef fishing in the shallows.

Mutton snapper, fishing
Mutton snappers like these can be had in the heat of summer. Reef fishing Key West

May and June are both great months for larger snappers while reef fishing here in Key West. The mutton snapper and Yellowtail snappers both spawn this time of the year near the full moons of May and June. During the rest of the moon phases they venture out and around the reefs pillaging with a healthy appetite. Making them easy targets.

These past couple of weeks the reef fishing has been exceptional. I have been getting some Yellowtail snappers in the 4-6 lb range with my anglers and some nice red groupers. Im using live baits (pinfish), buck-tail jigs and butterfly jigs for my tackle and technique with great results. Most of my good fish have been caught in less than 100 ft of water making it easy cranking.

The heat is a consideration this time of the year. With temps and humidity like we have been experiencing drinking a good bit of water is great but sometimes not enough. I have been drinking Coconut water the last few years with great results and really leaves me feeling hydrated. Not a huge fan of the taste but it helps me rebound on the hottest days. See the link below for Amazon to order some yourself.
