Key West Fishing Report January 15 2010

Key West Barracuda

What a month so far. January has been great.

Caught myself thinking about summer fishing in Key West a few days ago as I was riding in my jeep down the Florida Keys overseas highway and had to stop the thought. I really like winter in the Florida Keys and Key West. The weather is awesome. Yes, we get 30 mph and 50 degrees on occasion but then there are days like this one. 72 sunny and 5 – 10. Perfect. Looks like the rest of the week is going to remain the same till about thursday when we will go back to 20 and 65 degrees. Gotta take the good with the bad, right? Well, I will take notice that I did not have snow shuvel (cant even spell it) in my hand to dig out my truck. I dont know how you folks up North cope.. That said. I am buying coffee here at the tackle shop for every one of our clients on our cooler days to keep warm. Doing my part.

The fishing report is this. Let’s Goooooo.

We are having the busiest January ever here in Key West at Dream Catcher Charters. I think largely due to the extreme weather up North but its been great. we are on the water everyday.

Basckcountry fishing is great on cool days and the nice days. Tarpon are showing up and permit are tailing on the flats during the warming trends and trout, ladyfish, snapper, snook, and mackerel are in great numbers during the cooler days.  Great time of the year to just go catch a bunch of fish. Volume fishing as I call it. Our bay boats are complete with cooler ice and all the gear you can wreck in a day of fishing.

Offshore its been a mixed bag as well. Kingfish on the reef, sailfish, tuna, and some dolphin have been reported skirting the color changes under the birds moving West to East. Problem last week was the wind, now its calmed a bit and I bet we will hear of some catches coming up soon. Our deep sea fleet of sport fishing boats is ready to get you out there. To find the best boat or virtually walk the dock, contact Island Gen. She knows all those guys and gets you the best rate. Don’t forget we also offer Split or shared charters as well, just call and she will “hook you up”. 1-888-362-3474.

Wrecks and reef the cobia are still here with many permit around the wrecks with them. Lots to do on this trip called my “All In Wonder” where we tackle as many different species as possible to make a very complete day for you. To book the “All In Wonder” with me aboard my 32 Ft boat call soon it fills up fast.

Island Gen takes care of you for fishing, accommodations, restaurant coupons and recommendations for Key West and of course she is the Madam Of the Sea when it comes to booking fishing guides. She only uses the very best guides and charters for exactly what you are looking for. You can reach her at 1-888-362-3474 or drop her an E-Mail at flakeys2@bellsouth.net.
