Lobster Sportsman Season Done. Get Back To The Fishing.

Sportsman lobster season is a good hit for local tourism related businesses here in Key West. But its also a hit on our local environment and shallow water flats. I cannot tell you how many boats I have seen aground on those two days of mini season in my career. It has gotten so hectic we actually shut Dream Catcher Charters down for those two days to let everyone else enjoy.

Fishing this week will be tough through the weekend due to a stiff breeze out of the South East. Spoke to one of our offshore boats this am as he was headed out for the first time in two days and he said conditions were favorable for dolphin at 500 ft.

Backcountry the boys here at Dream Catchers are in the tarpon early this am already. Sharks, barracudas and bonefish were the other reports I was getting early here as we had all of our boats on the water showing people a great time.

Reef fishing has been STELLAR!! with the mangrove snapper, mutton snapper, groupers and  yellowtail snapper we put a big box of fish together back on tuesday and had a ball. Many fish were caught in the 9 – 20 lb range.

August 6th is the next lobster days. then the season lasts till March 30. This is the time when the pros come down to catch lobsters and stay for a while. The fishing will be great as we move toward my favorite months to be in Key West. Flats fishing and reef fishing will be very good during the month of August.
