Key West Fishing Report August 2012
Heat Prevails and so does the fishing..
Good News… Indigenous V will be back in the water by the end of this month. Many of my clients will remember the last Green flats boat I had. Well, she has gone through some pretty interesting changes and is almost ready to go back at it as a veteran of flats fishing here in Key West. I will be opening a schedule to fish with me on this boat this fall. Call for details. 305 292 7212..
The tail end of July was a hot one. Dry Conditions prevailed and the fishing held up really well. However the tropics are heating up.
Tropical conditions do amazing things to the flats fishing here in Key West. We get a change up in the weather and the fish absoultly go NUTS. Heavy rains and some wind make for nice differences in thermalclines on the flats even in the shallow water columns. Bonefish love it and the tarpon think its party time.
Deep sea fishing the changes of weather for the tropics can include a killer dolphin bite. As the stroms push through there is added floatsam rolling through the Gulf Stream making it an amazing fishery for everything from dolphin, wahoo, tuna and marlin.
On the wrecks and reefs out of Key West the high winds from a passing tropical system can dirty the waters a bit makeing hte reef bite more competitive therefore improving the hooking of some serious table fare. Grouper season is open till January. The mutton snapers, mangrove snappers and yellowtail snappers are all good stuff.. Don’t forget, on my wreck and reef fishing charters I start oft the day with some fun light tackle fishing for permit and some barracudas.
Come to Key West in the Fall. The weather is amazing (outside the tropical fronts) and the fishing is incredible. Avoid the high priced hotels in the offseason with affordable rates. Check with Island Genn here at The Keys To key West and see about affordable hotels and activities at The Key Wester….
Don’t forget, each time you fish with Me or one of the fishing guides here at Dream Catcher Charters your catch is entered into the year long running Key West Fishing Tournament.
See you then.. lets get out there..
