October 10th 2016 – Fall is here. Ushering in the very first “cool” front right after Hurricane Matthew made his Godzilla like appearance on the Eastern Seaboard. Key West was left completely untouched. In fact it was kinda nice, there was no one here other than some refugees from the storm. Winds today are blowing pretty good finally, we needed to stir things up a bit. Temps went into the upper 70s for the first time since May. My favorite time of the year here in the Keys.

Reefs and just beyond.

Before this little blow  the Key West reef fishing bite was turned on HOT.  I suspect this little NE blow will only add gas to the fire. Blackfin tunas are in the 300 ft range and smashing whatever moves.. More of a November thing usually but I will take it. Fish up to 25lbs being reported daily. Its gonna only get better out there. On the reef the yellowtail bite was good and getting better with some monsters moving on the reef eating up the ballyhoo stacked on the edges. Patch reefs are holding great red and black grouper fishing with lots of other fun stuff to catch like jacks, codas and mackerel.

We encourage people to fish the reef hard this time of the year. Its the last of the grouper season and the bite is really good. Chose your boat though. It can get a little sporty out there for folks in smaller rigs trying to make a day of it. Call our office and see what we recommend for you on a great day of reef fishing. Reef fishing charters on twin engine center console fishing boats start at 700.00 for the half (4 hr) day for up to 5 people. You keep all the fish and we will filet them for you.

Inshore Backcountry Fishing and Key West Flats Fishing

First little chill of the season the fish are going to feel it first in the shallower water columns. The bone fishing here in Key West has been awesome this year with great numbers of fish on the flats. Along with permit and tarpon this has been a great flats fishing season. Look for more of the same. A water temp check today showed that we lost just 2 degrees of temp and thats nothing. Backcountry fishing in Key West this time of the year is our most popular trip with great times being had bending rods. We are starting to see some trout and some of our other winter cast of characters showing up here in Key West already. I think we are going to have a cold winter. Get out in the backcountry for a calm fun day of fishing. With barracudas, sharks, jacks, trout and mackerel we will show you a great time.

As you can see, the fall is my favorite time of the year to fish in Key West. Lots of our regulars think so too which keeps us busy here at Dream Catcher Charters. Come to Key West this time of the year to really see what Key West is all about. Give us a call and book a fishing charter.. Have some fun..!
