July 25th 2020 – The Sun is out, finally. The winds have laid down, finally.. The summer like tropical system that sat on top of us last week deciding where in the Gulf Of Mexico it was going to go has finally lifted its knee off our neck here in Key West and conditions are getting better for deep sea fishing and reef fishing.

Last Week Deep Sea Fishing Report

Was tough offshore but there were some nice dolphin caught. A price paid for those willing to put in the time in the unstable air masses that were being ushered through by 15 – 20 mph ENE winds. The Gulf stream was in pretty close, only 13 miles to the Northern edges making it not such a long run thankfully to get to the better dolphin fishing. We had reports of dolphin up to 25lbs caught in the Key West deep sea fishing fleet last week.

Wednesday marked the kick off of the Key West Marlin tournament here in Key West. Usually coinciding with Hemingway days that were cancelled this year due to COVID the Marlin tournament went on as scheduled. Day 1 produced no weighable fish and no marlin were caught. Day 2 Team “On Course” weighed in a 24+ lb dolphin. There were some sailfish hooked but none were landed.

So, the weather certainly had its affects on either the fishing or the ability for those guys to fish.

Next Week.

A GREAT time to head offshore and do some deep sea fishing to avoid the Florida Keys Mini Lobster Season folks that will be scrambling to catch a lobster. The weather looks fabulous and the fishing should be on point. We have nothing in the forecast through August 1st that will slow us down to get after some fun pelagic species
