Go To Backcountry For Good Fishing

The Backcountry water temps have cooled off thanks to the rains and wind stirring things up. Take advantage of the pre Fall conditions for Key West fishing.

August 2nd 2020 – The water temps have come down from the highs two weeks ago before the rains. Now we have had some rain and wind to stir things up and cool things off the backcountry fishing has gotten pretty good.

Backcountry Fishing Report

Red Grouper being held up by lady angler fisherman
Backcountry Fishing with Capt. Brandon of Dream Catcher Charters this lady angler catches what we call a Fire Truck in the shallows. Nice Work!

Last week before and after the mini lobster season we got into some good backcountry fishing and it looks like the weeks coming will be great too. Pretty much everything across the board for fish species such as bonefish, permit, tarpon, barracudas, jacks, sharks on the flats as well as mutton snapper, red groupers and a few smaller yellowtails in the deeper channels. Key West Fishing was very good with the guys here at Dream Catcher Charters.

The Forecast For Early August

I just LOVE LOVE LOVE this time of the year with only one exception. Yes, you guessed it, the storms. But good news.. I have been looking over the computer models here and it looks like we have the first two and maybe three weeks in August storm free here in Key West. We have just a couple little rain fronts scheduled to come through and keep our temps down which makes for perfect fishing conditions in August. Which can be a brutally hot month.

I expect our tarpon fishing to be sparse but possible for the early birds that want to get after them. After the tarpon bite is over then try some flats fishing for bonefish. Our bonefishing has been incredible these last few years and only getting better. No better time to scratch a bonefish off your bucket list than the months of August, September and October here in Key West. Also on the flats anglers will get some great shots at our famous permit, be ready.. For the rod benders we have a large cast of characters to chose from in August that will not only be fun to catch but great to eat. Enjoy snappers, yellow jacks, grouper and more.

Snorkeling and Fishing

Snorkelers
Snorkeling is good anywhere in Key West

One of the things we offer here in the summer are snorkeling and fishing charters. In fact we pioneered this trip when DCC was first created back in 1993. An opportunity to do some fishing and then some snorkeling to cool off. Your choice, we supply the gear. Ask about it..

COVID and Fishing

No sweat.. Wear a mask when you show up at our dock and we take you out. We promise our boats and our crew are clean and healthy ready to fish just like always. Wear a sun cover or mask.. We like sun covers because they offer an added value of protection for sun exposure and don’t look weird. but it is business as usual with us and we are ready.
