Deep Sea Fishing Stays Strong In September

Deep sea fishing September Dolphin

September 26 2020 – There are many signs that summer is giving way to the fall. We had our first little cold front that allowed us to enjoy a nice taste of cooler weather. Deep Sea fishing stays strong as the seasons start to change. Here at Dream Catcher Charters we have been very busy taking folks fishing every day.

Deep Sea Fishing Report

Last week things were very good out off shore deep sea fishing with a strong dolphin bite that does not seem to be letting up. Generally this time of the year we get into some smaller “schoolie” dolphin regularly but these fish we have been catching have been nice fish in the 8-25lb range. Along side the dolphin we are also hitting some nice blackfin tunas and the occasional wahoo. As we all know the Gulf Stream wavers in and out like a snake as it passes by the Key West coast line so the depths we have been finding the dolphin has varied, keeping things interesting but still keeping us in the fish. The deep sea fishing has been quit good and many folks are taking advantage of it.

Deep Sea Fishing Forecast

Happy to report that it seems we are happily over hurricane season, maybe not by date but by conditions that set up those awful storms we had this year. As I mentioned before the summer patterns are giving way to the fall. Generally when the South East states such as Alabama or Georgia get their first days with temps in the 50s I consider the tropical season for that year to come to a close.

Looking out 10 days it seems that we get some Northerly patterns to our winds with a larger chance of rains. Toward the first week of October. With the Northerly winds I expect to see more and larger blackfin tunas. Also with the full moon coming up, the wahoo fishing will improve greatly and we are super excited about that. I heard a report today from one of the Captains that they landed a 50lb wahoo that hit a trolled ballyhoo with a skirt.

This is supposed to be the off season for us as Key West fishing charters. But it has yet to slow down and thankfully we are still in good fishing. In my opinion there is no better time to come to Key West to avoid crowds and get great room rates. To be sure to have the place to yourself.. come during the week if your able. Seems that Miami has been using the Florida Keys as a weekend getaway spot since they are closed for COVID.
