Cooler Waters Makes Shallows Better

Mutton Snapper Fish close. Dinner rules

January 24th 2021 – Cooler waters are making the shallows better for fishing . The past few days have been super pretty. Light winds and 70 degrees most of the day. A light jacket for the runs from spot to spot. Water temps in the Low 70s and crystal clear. Perfect for Key West fishing really far offshore but thats not necessary as there are plenty of fish in close.

Here at Dream Catcher Charters we have been doing very well on fishing in Close. Nice catches of mutton snapper, yellowtail snappers are available just outside our backcountry areas and easily accessible with artificial lures and live baits.

We work hard constantly keeping our anglers casting and catching here. The nice part of looking for the fish sandwich is we also wind up with some hard pulling by-catch such as barracudas, sharks and cero / Spanish mackerels.

This past week on our Key West backcountry fishing charters we worked over some of the patch reefs using our trolling motors to keep us going and hitting new areas. Our anglers had a blast and caught lots of fish.

Moral to the story is, just because it’t a nice day doesn’t mean you should run over fish to go find fish when they are right in your backyard.

Here at Dream Catcher Charters we are having a great January for fishing. Deep sea fishing has been a little slow this month with hit or miss days of sailfish or dolphin but mostly mackerel, bonito and a few blackfin tunas. This is making the focus of our reef fishing trips on board our 36ft Yellowfin Center Console for snappers. The inshore or backcountry fishing has been excellent as mentioned in this Key West fishing report..
