February Tarpon Key West Valentines

Key West tarpon fishing Tarpon fishing in February Key West

February 13 2021 We are on what I like to call the other side of winter here in Key West. February can go either way. Cold and windy or 80 and sunny. This week coming up, we have 80 and sunny with water temps in the high 70s. Thats Tarpon fishing Time and definitely a possibility for our anglers here at Dream Catcher Charters to catch a tarpon in February.

Tarpon fishing Key West
Key West Tarpon Fishing Valentines Weekend.. Look Ma, nO Snow!

A steady run of days with South East winds here in Key West warms everything up and turns on the predator bite like crazy. Baitfish are swarming and something has to eat them. Enter the tarpon. I have seen many February in my career hold some of the best tarpon fishing I have ever done. Im hoping it shapes up that way this week as the temps stay in the 80s through Thursday.

Winter tarpon are usually pretty good size fish. Its not uncommon for them to reach 100 plus pounds. We use live bait for them this time of the year usually because the water can still be a bit banged up but not this week. Yesterday I jumped two with my anglers on Hogy artificial baits. Always prepared this time of the year to find and catch tarpon.

NOTE: I am not saying that it is tarpon season or that anyone has a guaranteed shot at catching one. Just saying it is a chance.
